Going SWO: Ship Selection

Arguably the most momentous night of any Surface Warfare Officer’s career is his/her ship selection. Resembling the NFL Draft, ship selection is based on a ranking system and available ship list. Midshipmen find out their order of merit among their peers, walk across stage and select the name of the first ship they will serve on in the U.S. Navy. Navy detailers oversee this process, as friends, family and future shipmates standby to watch each midshipman’s fate.

The United States Naval Academy will hold its annual ship selection night this Thursday, Feb. 2 beginning at 6:25 p.m. EST in Annapolis, Md. The ceremony will also be streamed live on SWONET.

On Feb. 15 – 16, Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) will have its ship selection, also streamed live on SWONET for the public to watch.

Stay tuned for more details from Surface Warriors on Facebook.
