USS Independence Makes First Foreign Port Visit

This week USS Independence (LCS 2) made its first foreign port visit since its commissioning to Manzanillo, Mexico. Sailors assigned to Independence’s Gold Crew and embarked MCM Detachment 1 are underway for the ship’s maiden voyage to homeport in San Diego, Calif.

While in port, Independence invited Mexican dignitaries from the Mexican Navy’s Pacific Naval Force and 6th Naval Region to a reception on the flight deck. Sailors also participated in a community service project and donated educational, humanitarian and goodwill materials from Project Handclasp to a local orphanage.
