Bound for Bahrain

Four San Diego-based
mine countermeasures (MCM) ships departed the Port of Long Beach on May 9 for Bahrain. The ships are deploying to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in response to a request from U.S. Central Command for additional mine countermeasures assets in the theater. USS Devastator (MCM 6), USS Pioneer (MCM 9), USS Sentry (MCM 3) and USS Warrior (MCM 10) were loaded aboard the contracted semi-submersible ship Tern for the transit. While the U.S. Navy has contracted heavy lift vessels for previous MCM transport, this is the first time four minesweepers were loaded onto one vessel.
