SURFPAC Appoints New Surface Force Ombudsman
Lisa Murphy, an Alabama native, is a military spouse with one daughter. She graduated from Arnold’s International School of Cosmetology in Atlanta, Ga. During her 20 years as a professional cosmetologist, Lisa worked at two top salons in Atlanta until her husband took a military assignment in Cornwall, England. While in Atlanta, Lisa also earned a black belt in martial arts and became a certified yoga instructor. She was able to put her yoga teaching skills to use while living overseas.
Upon returning to the U.S. with her family on orders to San Diego, Calif. in 2009, Lisa chose to pursue involvement within the community and her husband’s command, USS William P. Lawrence (DDG 110). Lisa volunteers at her daughter’s preschool, teaches Sunday school, helps with the military bread ministry, serves as advisor for the Surface Enlisted Spouse Association, and was ombudsman for the William P. Lawrence for the last two years. In March 2012, she furthered her training as an ombudsman to become a Certified Ombudsman Trainer (COT), and has since been appointed an Ombudsman Assembly Chairperson.
Lisa’s hobbies include reading, photography, yoga and running. One of her lifetime goals is to run the Marine Corps Marathon. She started working toward that goal by training for and completing her first half marathon in August 2011. Next she is looking forward to doing the 2012 Triple Crown half marathons in the San Diego area.
