SURFPAC Kicks Off Surface Line Week 2012
The closing ceremony may have already wrapped up the Summer Olympics in London, but the Surface Navy has only just begun its annual competition. Sponsored by Commander Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet, Surface Line Week (SLW) is the signature event across the waterfront that highlights Sailors’ skills through various competitive seamanship and sporting events.
From basketball, dodge ball and tennis, to shiphandling, marksmanship and valve packing—there’s a competition for everyone. The culinary specialists can test their skills during the chili cook-off and cake decorating competition, and the mass communication specialists can put their best work forward in a photography contest.
Kicking off the week is a two-day sailing competition (photo above), and closing out the week is the Surface Warrior Ball, a reception marking the culmination of SLW events.
