15 Activities to Help Avoid the Holiday Blues

If you’re a Sailor who can’t be with your family on Thanksgiving, or a family member missing your Sailor on deployment—good news—you’re not alone. There’re plenty of activities to keep you busy during the holiday season, here are just a few:

1. Enjoy a holiday meal with all the fixings at a Liberty Center
2. 
Stop by a USO Center for some traditional holiday chow
3. Watch a movie (or several) on base
4. 
Head to the bowling alley on base to “strike” up some fun
5. Sign up for a local turkey trot or 5K run/walk
6. Get started with holiday shopping (beginning at midnight or online anytime)
7. Volunteer to serve up grub at a local food bank or soup kitchen
8. Get a jump start on putting up holiday decorations
9. Begin writing and addressing holiday cards
10. Visit a local park, beach, mountain, forest or lake
11. Spread cheer at a local children’s home or hospital
12. Play a game of pool, or catch a football game at a Liberty Center
13. Hit up the gym to burn off some of those extra holiday calories
14. Check out a new area of town with a long drive or hike
15. Take time to plan your next vacation
