San Diego Sailor Reunites with Family during Surprise Homecoming at SeaWorld

Petty Officer 1st Class Kyle Baldridge reunites with his family at SeaWorld

Christmas came early this year for the children of Petty Officer 1st Class Kyle Baldridge. Deployed to the Persian Gulf for the last seven months, Baldridge reunited with his family in a surprise homecoming ceremony during the Shamu show at SeaWorld San Diego.

Baldridge, assigned to USS Independence (LCS 2), completed an Individual Augmentee (IA) assignment aboard the mine countermeasures ship USS Dextrous (MCM 13). During his deployment, the 12-year Navy veteran and the Dextrous crew patrolled the Gulf in search of underwater mines. Keeping the Gulf clear of mines is critical to the safety of U.S. naval and international commercial ships operating in the region. As with previous naval deployments, Baldridge was separated from his family who has only been able to see him occasionally via Skype.

Before the start of the “One Ocean” Shamu show, Baldrige’s family was reunited in front of an audience of more than 4,000 park visitors. Watch the video of their reunion here.
